From what I understand, its something like this "All the financial packages and economic subsidies given to poor only weaken them. Instead the government should work on giving people a way to stand own ther own feet instead of always depending on the government. This dependency has led the poor to remain poor." His idea is based of a main theme of the Republican party that states and individuals should have more say in their livelihoods with little goverment input.
Do I agree? Hmmm
I do find it to be something very interesting that the Republicans have yet to use it in thier efforts to gain minority interest and control gov't spending.
This is something deep.
Leading black economist Thomas Sowell speaks about the" welfare trick in black communities" .

thats a deep issue that was debated in my poli sci program, i understand his perspective yet i do not side with it; i believe that if you take rawls view of justice, individuals will be able to accept the necessity of the initiatives that the democrat party is supporting; the concern of many republicans is not that impoverished/ in need minorities are bein crippled by using govt assistance as a crutch, but more so that the justice that the govt is presenting to this specific population is redistributing their resources (money) or putting parameters on private markets that they have predominant access to...which in itself is an inequality; yet that issue is always chalked up to markets have free entry and are accessible to all...(how truthful is that?)
I am about to post a blog response to this on the ACE page, and on the BMI page so y'all should check that out. I am going to reply to this one with the link after I do that. To briefly respond now though, I agree and disagree. I think that Republicans are not trying to help Blacks anymore than Democrats in a way. I think that Democrats are more sympathetic, but programs like welfare, public school system, and other programs that are pushed by Democrats to help minorities hinder the majority of minorities. The ideas that Republicans have that they push for to offset the social programs that Democrats love I believe would help less minorities. The difference is that Democrats have the intention of helping minorities with these social programs, but it does not turn out this way in practice as well as they would want it to. The Republican programs I think they only push for because they want some of the minority vote, but since most of the minority vote is loyally always with the Democrats that the Republicans pretend that they have actual programs to help minorities when they are really just programs to help their majority rich constituents that MIGHT help a small amount of minorities. One party has good intentions, and the other is dressing their ideas in sheep's clothing. The result of both is not as good as they plan. All in my opinion.
Corey,
I think it's a bit misguided to say that the Republicans only do things to get votes, while Democrats do it out of the goodness of their hearts. They both want votes plain and simple and act accordingly.
I could be wrong, but I don't think the Republican party is made up of "majority rich constituents". It is made up of a majority of white people (not necessarily rich)...but then so is the Democratic Party.
I personally am Latina and agree with the author's friend. Whoever that is - start a club man lol being a minority and a conservative can be lonely!
