It started last month, based on the idea of Gucci Mane's rise, this concept birthed a monster that came to life in this issue. Behind all the controversy, is a freshman based issue which main aim is to highlight certain things about GW and life in DC.
Enjoy.

As a black student at the George Washington University I am both disappointed and embarrassed of what has become The Ace. As a publication that was created to reflect the needs of the black community at GW, the most current issue has failed miserably. Black, college-educated, students care about more than Gucci Mane and the hottest hood fashion, and The Ace should serve as a reflection of these greater concerns. What about health care reform? What about the challenge of being black at a university such as GW? What about the ever-increasing cost of a college education and how that effects GW's black population? What about the matriculation rate for students of color here? These are all real issues that plague our community, and your publication chose to negate them and any real chance at journalism. There were many people working in educational arenas and holding positions of service (Heads-Up and Congressional Black Caucus Internships just to name a few) in DC this summer, but instead you chose to cover Carnival and some boys birthday party?!? How irrelevant and erroneous. This publication reflects the black community as a whole to outsiders, so before you create your next issue ask yourself, "Will this contribute to the advancement of our race?" If the answer is no, rethink before you print.
um to the person above. I graduated from gwu and didnt even read the last issue and feel you need to chill out. The ace should have some direct impact articles, but you getting all malcolm x in here aint helping either. You shouldnt care how outsiders see black people. You should care about how black people see black people. We can't control our public image, but we can control our own. CHILL
I completely agree with the first comment. As a former contributor to The ACE magazine, I am EMBARASSED! I can't believe this is what the ACE has become. The Ace was a means of communicating the challenges and highlight the progress of the minority community on The George Washington University.
The presentation of the Newsletter is even further disturbing. The content lacks consistency, commonality, and a common thread that ties the edition of the Newsletter together. Additionally, I am not sure how The Ace is conveying its relationship to the Black Student Union. The Ace Newsletter was created by the Black Student Union to keep members and the campus "in the know." So Gucci Mane and Jay-Z are somehow connected to the BSU, how???
Get it together. I can't believe this is what GW minorities have come to.
DO BETTER.
I think I will speak to Tapscott about this because this is an extremely POOR reflection of BSU and Minority culture on campus, in general.
